Dogs must be on leash and cats must be in a carrier.
Feral cats should be in a live trap.
Rabbits should come in a travel size enclosure.
If your pet is current on their rabies vaccine, please bring proof of the vaccine.
Rabies tags are NOT sufficient proof.
Dogs and cats should not have breakfast the morning of surgery.
Do NOT fast rabbits, they should have food available at all times.
Please allow time for your dog to go potty prior to drop off.
If your pet has any medical concerns, please email us at radpetscorvallis@gmail.com prior to surgery.
In most cases no…we will perform a pre-surgical exam the morning of the scheduled procedure. We are also able to review previous exam records from your regular veterinarian ahead of time as needed.
No! Under the hands of a skilled surgeon, spaying your pet while they are in heat does not carry increased risk. We also do not charge any extra for in-heat pets.
Unless very late term (ie. about to give birth) we are able to safely spay and abort the fetus’ in a pain free humane way. There is no additional charge for spaying a pregnant pet.
For most procedures, the healing time is 14 days. During this time, your pet's activity level should be kept low and your pet should wear an e-collar to prevent licking at the incision site.
Yes! We require the tattoo as part of our spay/neuter services. Feral cats also receive an ear-tip. The spay/neuter indicator tattoo is a small linear green tattoo in or near the incision site. This indicator tattoo is used to show that the pet has been spayed or neutered. It is a key tool in preventing unnecessary surgeries should your pet ever end up in a rescue or shelter situation.
No, the sutures are internal and will dissolve on their own. Do not allow your pet to lick or chew at the incision site. Check daily for any excessive redness, swelling or oozing. Email us at radpetscorvallis@gmail.com if you have concerns about the incision site.
We suggest you talk with your full service vet to determine the best timing for YOUR pet's spay or neuter. However, we encourage early-age surgery due to quicker recovery time of a young pet.
Kittens and puppies should be at least 2 pounds.
Rabbit spays should be at least 6 months of age and over 2 pounds.
Yes! Having witnessed firsthand the animal overpopulation problem, we will only perform procedures on spayed/neutered pets.
We are happy to spay/neuter your pet on the same day as any other procedure.
We will place an IV catheter and anesthetize your pet. Your pet will then receive full dental x-rays, probing and charting of all teeth, and a cleaning with polishing.
Extractions are based on oral exam and x-ray findings. We remove any teeth that are mobile, have greater than 50% bone loss, have fractures with the pulp canal exposed, have abscessed roots on x-ray, are un-erupted, or are causing problems in the mouth. The cost will vary depending on the number and type of extractions.
If there are extractions we will perform local numbing blocks and will send home post-op pain medication and antibiotics as needed. Your pet will need to have a soft food diet for about 2 weeks. All stitches will dissolve.
If you think your pet is having a minor surgical complication such as a small open area, redness, or oozing at the incision site, make sure they are wearing a cone/surgical suit. Please send us an email with a picture of your pet's incision and a description of the problem to radpetscorvallis@gmail.com. We will get back to you within 24 hours.
If you think your pet is having a major surgical complication such as tissue coming out of the incision, extreme pain, pale gums, or other things that concern you; please seek emergency veterinary care.
We do not offer sick pet care.
RAD pets does not refund deposits except for in a true medical emergency for the pet or owner. This requires proof or said emergency prior to the appointment. If you cannot make your appointment and give us 7 (seven) days minimum notice, we can either credit the pre-payment to your account for future appointments or reschedule your appointment to a later date. If you no call/no show your appointment, the deposit made will be forfeited to our Pay it Forward account that will help less fortunate animals get surgery in the future.
This is a complicated answer with many different causes but the main reason is that we have very low overhead costs since we do not see appointments or provide anything other than surgery and dentistry.
Additionally, we strongly believe that by charging less we can help more pets and what we lose in the cost we make up for in the volume.
We want to assure you that our procedures are just as safe as they would be with your regular veterinarian. Our doctors have years of focused experience with high volume surgery and because of this they are able to perform the procedures with less time under anesthesia and smaller incision sizes. All pets receive full monitoring and longer procedures such as dentals receive IV catheters.
